On July 27, the music streaming giant Spotify, announced the number of users who pay to enjoy its service. At that time, there were 83 million subscribers to the platform who pay religiously every month. The number of subscribers using the platform without paying, that is, with ads, was 180 million.
Three months later, the Swedish platform Spotify has just announced the results for the last quarter, results that show us how the number of paid subscribers has increased to 87 million, 4 million new users than three months ago. The number of users who use the platform without paying has also increased.
Specifically in 11 million, in this way, to date, there are already 191 million users who use the platform for free with ads. In recent months, practically since it officially went public, we have seen how Spotify has considerably improved the functions and options that users have at their disposal, despite the fact that the income generated by this type of service is much lower than the they get through paid users.
Spotify's forecasts for before the end of the year suggest that it will reach a figure of between 93-96 million subscribers, while the number of users of the free version will be between 199-206 million.
Despite the strong competition from Apple Music, Spotify has managed to find different ways to increase its user base, both paid and free, which is undoubtedly appreciated by all the investors who bet on the company when it went public.
The different promotions that he has launched through Hulu and Showtime for students, who for only 5 euros a month have full access to the platform without ads, surely have contributed to the growth of the user base.
