The Russian government wants to block Telegram if you do not give them your data

The news came out a few weeks ago. A Russian court had ordered access to the data of Telegram users, which the courier company stores on its servers. Telegram had refused to give this information to the official security service, and since then they have been looking for a way to block the service throughout the country.

Still, the Russian government does not have it easy at all, because more and more users in this country, preferably use this messaging service. In fact, not only individuals access Telegram daily, if not, that some officials appear to be using the service through specific VPNs to avoid the ban.

According to information from Reuters:

In Russia, Telegram is increasingly popular as an application for mobile devices and desktop computers, not only among ordinary people, but also widely used by the authorities.

The Kremlin uses Telegram to coordinate the times of regular conference calls with President Vladimir Putin, while many government officials use Telegram to communicate with the media.

When Reuters asked a person from the Russian government how they would operate without access to Telegram, the person who asked not to be identified due to the sensitivity of the problem responded with a screenshot of his mobile phone with an open VPN application.

This is not the only front of the company this year. She was recently accused of favoring child pornography, being a parapet for pedophiles. In addition, several channels have great pirated audiovisual content.

Instead of linking to annoying, ad-filled file-sharing websites, or asking users to install additional software (as is common with torrent websites like The Pirate Bay and other forums) most channels load the content directly to the Telegram cloud. This has allowed users to download a movie or song directly to their phone or computer with a single tap.

We enter into the eternal debate of privacy or content control, by the authorities. This content is initially private, but at the same time it may violate fundamental rules. Telegram, for its part, announces that it is constantly improving its tools to control irregularities of this type.
