The AirPower will arrive, wherever the sun rises

It's been more than a year since Apple announced the AirPower charging base, an accessory that will wirelessly charge three devices at the same time. It has not yet been put on sale, but there is definitive evidence that the project has not been abandoned.

The documentation for the new iPhone XR makes a clear mention of this product so Apple continues to develop a product that is not finished. In other words, Apple is not going to back down with a product that at first glance does not have much more complication of what we can find in others that the company already has for sale.

The paper "Hello" getting started guide that comes with Apple's latest smartphone says "Place iPhone face up on AirPower or Qi-certified wireless charger." The same wording is used in the documentation for the iPhone XS series. Additionally, the hidden code in the iOS 12.1 beta versions has been updated to show the AirPower features.

If we do a little memory, Apple introduced the AirPower for the first time a year ago, alongside the iPhone 8 and iPhone X, the first iOS smartphones to support wireless charging. This accessory can charge an iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods simultaneously, but it goes beyond that. When an iPhone is on the charger with other items, the phone screen shows the charging status of the other devices.

Also, the watch, the phone, etc. can be arranged in any way on the charger. It is this characteristic that is apparently causing problems for engineers, as mixing three sets of charging coils generates unacceptable amounts of heat. That's why CEO Tim Cook's promise that the AirPower would be available in 2017 was not kept. Currently, the company expects to have this accessory on the market by the end of this year.

There have been knockoff products that combine three chargers in one, but these do not have the additional features of the AirPower. There are only three mats stuck one next to the other.
