The BlackMagic eGPU is also ready for any USB-C monitor

Hours ago we commented la release of the first external graphics compatible with Mac, which Apple marketed on its website. The chosen model was Black Magic eGPU that has many characteristic features of an Apple product, which is why it is predictably the product of choice for the brand.

Many users have quickly got to work to learn all the ins and outs of the external graphics recommended by Apple. Among them We found the possibility of accelerating the LG Ultrafine 5k screen, if not also screens with USB-C or HDMI connection.

Therefore, this device can accelerate the performance of the Mac and in turn that of the external display through Thunderbolt 3. This was possible with other eGPUs, but we relied on third-party solutions to make it work. On the other hand, the BlackMagic eGPU is the first to do it directly.

It is confirmed by users that the BlackMagic eGPU connected to an LG Ultrafine 4k monitor by Thunderbolt 3, offers the expected result. But at the same time, the same results are obtained when we connect the graphic to a monitor through the USB-C port to a DisplayPort port.

In the event that you have two monitors, one with a Thunderbolt 3 connection and the other with an HDMI 2.0 port, we can work perfectly given the characteristics of this external graphic. It is also possible with a USB-C to HDMI or DisplayPort port.

This functionality is possible, thanks to the improvement of the Titan Ridge Thunderbolt 3 chipset, which allows an 8k display to run at 30Hz without compression, or at 60Hz with compression. There is only a transmission width limitation. We cannot connect two 5k monitors as we cannot transmit more than 40Gb / s.

This functionality is compatible with any MacBook Pro from 2016, therefore, it is not limited to the use of equipment from 2018 onwards, as it may seem at first. The BlackMagic eGPU is available in the Apple Store, and among other features, it has a very low level of external noise, thanks in large part to its design.
