The devices that Apple put in the drawer yesterday

Air Tag

Yesterday afternoon we attended the presentation of the WWDC 2020. We had been writing for weeks about the rumors that yesterday we would see new Apple devices, some of them already in production, and others widely discussed.

Well, it seems incredible how Apple and its entire environment of collaborators and suppliers are still capable of keeping new projects hidden until their presentation, as is the case of Mac mini ARM presented yesterday, of which nothing was known, and other devices that we expected to know, have been in a drawer of Apple Park.

During these last weeks, leakers known in the Apple environment as Ming-Chi Kuo, Jon Prosser and Mark Gurman, among others, they assured us at hand what new devices the company was going to present at WWDC 2020.

Well yesterday took place the presentation of the "big week" of Apple developers. A Keynote where Tim Cook and his collaborators focused on introducing the new features that will be implemented in this year's firmware versions, and hardware, almost nothing.

And I say "almost nothing", because against all odds, without previous rumors that we could suspect, Apple presented its new Mac mini with ARM processor, and devices were saved for another occasion, which we know for sure are even already being manufactured, curious.

24-inch iMac

This week, the Korean analyst Ming-Chi Kuo our assured that a new redesigned iMac with a 24-inch screen and an Intel processor was going to be presented at WWDC 2020. Well, no sign.

Yes, Apple has presented us with the migration it intends to make from the architecture of its processors from Intel to ARM with hairs and signals, which is to be appreciated, and how advanced this change has been, showing us a new Mac mini with a processor A12Z, but nothing else.

The mystery of AirTags

All the rumors pointed to the fact that already in the Keynote of September last year, Tim Cook would say "One More Thing ..." and take an AirTag from his pocket. This did not happen. Nine months have passed, with rumors indicating that they are even being manufactured, and there is no trace of the tracker (worth the redundancy) from Apple. Quite a mystery.

The AirPods Studio

Studio

Much has been said about an in-ear headphones that we haven't seen yet.

Yesterday there was also no talk about the new Beats-type over-ear headphones that the company was presumably going to launch already. The rumors gave us even the name, AirPodsStudio, and that they are being manufactured in South Korea, but they also did not appear yesterday by the Steve Jobs Theater.

HomePod Mini

A couple of months ago Mark Gurman leaked to us that we would soon see a new HomePod, smaller and cheaper than the current one. A great idea to be able to compete in the tough market for smart speakers, where its competitors have much more affordable products than the current HomePod. It was also saved.

Will COVID-19 be to blame?

From the beginning of this article I have been saying that all these new devices have remained in the drawer, but will come out of the. That they have not been presented yesterday, does not mean much less that they will not go on the market.

We all know the problems that we have had worldwide in recent months due to the happy pandemic of coronavirus. This has affected both the design planning and the production planning, so this may be the cause of the delay in presenting new devices, which we will surely see later.
