When I was editing the image of this article, I was seeing that graphically the comparison is not very accurate. Thousands of years passed from ape to man, and it grew almost twice its initial height. With Apple Watch only five years have passed, and has only grown two millimeters.
But as a concept, the idea is a good one. The man still has two arms and two legs as in his beginnings, but now he has a privileged brain capable of doing incredible things. That's what differentiates the original Apple Watch from the series 5. Almost same body, same straps, but more features advanced internal series after series. Of course, since series 3, it already has wings and can fly only away from the iPhone.
The Apple Watch has been with us for five years now. Like most Apple devices, many frowned when Tim Cook He presented it in September 2014. Who would buy a 500 Euro digital watch that was of little use if you didn't carry your iPhone in your pocket?
Certainly its beginnings were not very hopeful. I was one of the first to buy it at the 2015 and the truth is my family and friends looked at me strangely when I taught it with all my illusion.
Five years later, Apple can already boast that sells more watches than all Swiss manufacturers combined. And almost everyone who looked at me skeptical at first now wears a wearable on their wrist.
Since 2015, Apple has updated the Apple Watch every year, perfecting the design and introducing new features and technologies. Health and wellness are staples on the Apple Watch. But as you will see below, the improvements that the Cupertino have been introducing are truly incredible.
Apple Watch
The first Apple Watch was launched in 2015. It didn't have a serial number, it was just Apple Watch, no more. However, there were actually three different lines of Apple Watch when it debuted. The first was simply called "Apple Watch", this was the first edition that was made of stainless steel. Then there was the Apple Watch Sport with bands and an aluminum construction made to appeal to athletes. And finally, there was the version of the Apple Watch made of 18 carat gold only for the privileged.
As you can probably guess from the gold used to make the Apple Watch Edition, it was marketed as a luxury accessory. Needless to say, the Apple Watch edition did not sell well at all and was dropped the following year. Apple sometimes has these things.
The original Apple Watch came in sizes of 38mm and 42mm and featured Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Access to the Internet required a pairing with an iPhone. All also had a digital crown, Multi-Touch, Force Touch, Digital Touch, and side button. They all also wore an optical heart sensor. Its connection with the iPhone health app was very simple. For example, I had to install a third-party application (HeartWatch) to be able to manage my heart rate data. It was the beginning.
Apple Watch Series 1
A year later, Apple already presented its first update to the Apple Watch. The last name of "series 1" has already appeared. In this series the company lowered the price a bit to make it the most affordable new entry-level model for most people. It retained similar features that the original Apple Watch had: a Digital Crown, Multi-Touch, Force Touch, Digital Touch, and Side button.
Apple Watch Series 2
Apple also introduced the Apple Watch Series 2 that year. This model again had an aluminum body, but its main point of distinction was that, unlike the Series 1, the Series 2 had Built-in GPS. This meant that you no longer needed your iPhone to pair with your Apple Watch to get location data. It was already starting to separate from the mobile a bit, but still not flying alone.
Apple Watch Series 3
In 2017, the Apple Watch grew wings and flew on its own, away from Mommy iPhone's nest. Added option to Apple Watch Cellular. It was the first standalone Apple Watch with a direct LTE connection to the 4G phone network. A headache for the telephone companies, which were not prepared for such an event. Movistar took almost six months to be able to cover the new eSIM cards needed in the Apple Watch. Crazy.
Apple Watch Series 4
Two important novelties marked the new Apple Watch of 2018. The first, which grew two millimeters externally, and the screens increased by 20% inside. Instead of coming in 38mm and 42mm sizes, the Series 4 came in sizes of 40mm and 44mm. They aptly kept the same anchors with the same predecessor straps. Bigger box, same straps.
The other big improvement to the Series 4 was the addition of an electrical heart sensor (ECG / EKG). East electrocardiogram It allows users to check their heart rate at any time and if the watch detects a high or low heart rate, it alerts you, even when you do not feel symptoms.
Apple Watch Series 5
It is the current model. Launched in 2019, it has a novelty that makes it different from the rest of the previous 4 series, the "Always on" screen. The Series 5 features an always-on display. It also has a precise digital compass.
But the revolution is on your new screen. Makes the watch face always visible, without affecting the autonomy of the device. It seems like a small improvement, but it radically changes the way you wear and watch an Apple Watch. Thanks to the always on display, the Series 5 now feels like a true "watch" for the first time in history.
Future
Like all future Apple devices, little is known about the next Apple Watch. The truth is that at this time he is in very good health in sales, establishing himself as the wearables leader that you can wear on your wrist. There is a lot of competition in the sector, with very good products and others not so much, but without a doubt the Apple Watch offers benefits and company support that are difficult to beat.
It's obviously not perfect, and there are things you need to improve on. Five years have passed and his autonomy remains the same, a fair day and thank you. Very little, really. And if you leave your iPhone at home and pull the LTE connection, I won't even tell you. Another function that seems to be a reality is that it will show you the level of oxygen in your blood. In fact, physically the sensor of the Apple Watch could already show it to us, but we do not know why Apple has not activated it in watchOS at the moment. This, together with the control of the sleep activity, it seems that they will be the next novelties of the Series 6. Few are. I hope Tim Cook surprises us with something else….
