The impact of globalization through Macs made with unconventional materials

project to raise awareness of Globalization Art with Mac

The current world in which we move is a continuous globalization. That is, an economic, technological, political, social and cultural process on a world scale. It consists of the growing communication and interdependence between the different countries of the world. But it entails a series of drawbacks such as excessive consumerism and environmental pollution. The project created by Hank Beyer and Alex Sizemore aims to raise awareness of the latter and for this they have created a series of Macs with alternative materials that is very worth knowing.

Globalization leads to an environmental imbalance and companies must look to other alternative materials

globalization

Globalization is a good thing, in principle. We interact with other countries, we learn from each other but it requires continuous modernization and updating in order not to be left behind. This means a greater use of certain materials that can be harmful. It is not bad that from time to time the need to use alternative materials is reminded. That is what this project intends started by designers Hank Beyer and Alex Sizemore.

They have created a series of Macs made from materials that can be easily found locally. We have a Mac made from honeycombs, charcoal, and ice. The ultimate end, the moral of the story is «Question the implications of globalization and consider how unconventional materials can change the relationships between products.

The design project is titled "For the Rest of Us," which is a play on Apple's marketing slogan for the original Macintosh: "Introducing the Macintosh, the Computer for the Rest of Us." Macs with alternate materials have been photographed with backgrounds and frames similar to the original Macintosh advertisements. These "new" Macs, they are actually non-functional sculptures, they're looking to challenge Apple's industrial design aesthetics by reinventing them with thought-provoking materials.

Globalization on Macs

Globalization

There is a limestone sculpture that is almost practical and is intended to turn the color of Apple's original "Snow White" Macintosh design into a natural material. Others, like the Macs made on earth, ice, or honeycombs, are much more extraordinary and surreal. The whole project started several years ago and has as aim to present "an alternative reality". However, the design series is also 'forward looking' as companies seek more sustainable manufacturing processes and materials.

Globalization project

It is not a project against globalization but to raise awareness about it

The designers claim that with this project the last thing they want is to turn people against globalization. It is not a project against this concept. Rather, it is a project with the idea of raising awareness about the current state of it.

We don't want people to see our project and resent globalization, feel like we want to replace industry or consider new materials just on commercial merits. We want people to question the implications of globalization and consider how unconventional materials can change the relationships between products.

After exhibiting the project at the International Design Festival at Villa Noailles in Hyères, France, Beyer and Sizemore they have released a book linen hardcover book "For the Rest of Us," which investigates the "processes, people, history, politics, and values of each regional material source," and how different materials could be used to create a computer from desk.

Seeing the different images I have no choice but to say that my favorite is the one made with stone. It makes me smile as it reminds me of the Pica Piedra cartoon series, although the Mac designed with honeycombs and seeing that honey makes my mouth water. What is your favorite of all the designs?
