The internal hinge of some 27-inch iMacs is failing and Apple recognizes it

To end the day we echo our colleagues at Macrumors who have reported that some users have reported hinge failure on your 27-inch iMacs And it is that after months of use, even years, they find that the strength of the internal hinge of their iMac has gone from everything to nothing and therefore they lean forward having to put a box under them to be able to keep them high.

This failure is occurring randomly in different models of different years of release, but if we go to Apple's support documents we can read that Apple itself claims that units may have this phallus put on sale between December 2012 and July 2014.

Although Apple has not opened a specific fix program for it yet, it seems that it has recognized it internally and it seems that there is a part of the hinge the screen on 27-inch iMac which is made of plastic and that there comes a time when it starts and therefore stops working in an acceptable way.

Apple Support Communities user Mr Mo-Fo:

I was just sitting watching TV when there was a loud crack and my iMac screen suddenly tilted down - now the screen will not stay where it is tilted / positioned. I was not using the iMac at the time and it was not doing anything it just broke on its own. The Mac was only bought in February and has not been moved or tilted once it was in place.

For now, there has been no case in 21,5-inch iMac, so if Apple released an official program to fix it, it would be for the 27-inch unless they want to cover their backs and generalize. As you can see in the photograph that we show you of the internal hinge, the part that is damaged is plastic and it is what Apple should take into account to fix those iMac.

Below we show a video in which you can see very clearly the problem that we have talked about in this article. We will be very attentive to inform you if Apple releases an official fix program.

December 2012 and July 2014 May
