The KardiaBand bracelet for Apple Watch could detect high levels of potassium

Electrocardiogram Apple Watch Kardia Band

We have always talked about the high potential of the Apple Watch. As a tool for the study of the human body, it is very powerful, to the point that many developers have launched to obtain patents related to the world of health.

One of these contributions comes from AliveCor, a company that manufactures the KardiaBand bracelet for the Apple Watch. In Soy de Mac, we comment the release of the belt to the market, hinting the potential as an electrocardiogram meter. Today we know one more function, with the possibility of knowing the high levels of potassium, thanks to the use of Artificial Intelligence.

AliveCor partnered with the Mayo Clinic, where they investigate the potential of the device, paired with artificial intelligence. For this study, more than 2 million clinic EKGs, performed between 1994 and 2017, were used. At the same time, it was associated with 4 million potassium measurements. With that it is intended to create an algorithm that relates certain coronary behaviors, to detect what is known as hyperkalemia.

This high blood content causes various health-related conditions, such as: heart failure, kidney disease, diabetes. The aim is to preventively detect this disease, which would cause the serious diseases described above.

This action with the KardiaBand bracelet, does not eliminate any other analysis, since to date hyperkalemia is detected with blood tests. If not, it is a complement to detect a possible ailment, which would be confirmed with other types of more technical tests.

A second study, conducted at the Cleveland Clinic, also confirms the KardiaBand's ability to detect atrial fibrillation. Studies in this regard try to differentiate atrial fibrillation from a normal heart rhythm. The studies showed that the reliability of the bracelet reached very high degrees of success, compared to the measurement by doctors.

The bracelet is at the sale on the AliveCor page at a price of $ 199. However, to use the AliveCor premium service, we must subscribe for $ 99 per year.
