The Mac App Store needs to improve a lot, according to the developers

In recent years we have seen first-hand how a large number of developers have chosen to completely or partially abandon the Mac App Store to sell their applications. The main reason for this decision is related to the limitations that Apple allows developers, limitations that prevent them from creating an application meeting strict guidelines if they want to pass the supervisors' filter.

Despite the discontent shown by this community, which Apple loves so much if we talk about the iOS ecosystem, the guys from Cupertino are doing absolutely nothing to improve their relationship with them. The latest proof of the discontent of this community is found in the survey that Setapp has carried out where the Mac App Store goes very badly.

The main advantage that being available in the Mac App Store offers users is visibility since it is the first place users visit when looking for applications. According to this survey, for 31% of developers, it is worth sharing 30% of their income while for the rest, 69% do not do it at all.

Another complaint from this community is the lack of access to metrics that allow them to obtain more information about where the users who download their applications come from, an option that has been available to the iOS developer community but for only a few months. What's more revision time is very long, a time that was practically reduced to 24 hours a little over a year ago in the App Store.

Continuing with the complaints that the developers have shown, we can see how some of the options offered by Apple in the App Store, such as the possibility of rmake application packages or the possibility of answer comments in apps are still not available in the Mac app store.

According to this survey, conducted after consulting nearly 750 developers, where 100 is the highest score and -100 is the worst grade you can get the score that Apple has obtained in each category is as follows.

  • -34 for developers offering their apps on the Mac App Store
  • -48 for developers offering their apps both on and off the Mac App Store
  • -97 for developers offering their apps outside of the Mac App Store
