The identification and location is done through other devices with the same chip, as I have commented in the previous paragraph, but without them knowing at any time where the device is located, since all the information is encrypted and is only received by the owner who has activated the location.
At the moment Apple you are not getting the most out of this chip It is already only using this technology to offer a directional function through AirDrop, so we will have to wait a little longer to get the most out of it.
It is striking that Apple has not included the U1 chip in the new generation of iPad Pro 2020 (not in the iPhone SE 2020 either), since the possibilities it offers can be much broader than the theoretical ones that are not yet used and that also will probably work in conjunction with AirTags, Apple's location beacons that at the moment still do not see the light despite the large number of rumors that pointed to their launch in September.
