The new MacBook Airs and their Geekbench results

We are not going to say that we are facing the most powerful Macs that we have at Apple and that would be ridiculous, what we can confirm is that these new MacBook Air show interesting results in Gekkbench. They leave behind any previous MacBook Air and (remember) non-renewed 12-inch MacBook.

We can say that the model with which the tests have been carried out obtains some single-core results of 4.248 points and multi-core of 7.828 respectively. The computer they have used to obtain these results is a new MacBook Air with a 5 GHz dual-core Intel Core i8210-1,6Y (Turbo Boost up to 3,6 GHz), 4 MB of cache and 16 GB of RAM.

This is the capture with the results obtained by this new team in his first tests:

This equipment is somewhat faster than the previous Core Ms that the 2017 MacBooks mount obviously, although the difference between them is not much. On the other hand, it should be noted that Older MacBook Airs equipped with older processors are significantly less powerful -with a single-core score of 3.335 and multi-core of 6.119- so we should forget about your purchase unless it has a really low price, we care about having an outdated screen, an outdated design and a price that really doesn't it is so low compared to the new models.

Single-Core Performance

  • 2018 MacBook Air - 4248
  • 2017 MacBook Air - 3335
  • 1,4 GHz 2017 MacBook - 3925
  • 1,3 GHz 2017 MacBook - 3630
  • 1,2 GHz 2017 MacBook - 3527
  • 2,3 GHz 2018 MacBook Pro - 4504
  • 2,3 GHz 2017 MacBook Pro (without TB) - 4314

Multi-core performance

  • 2018 MacBook Air - 7828
  • 2017 MacBook Air - 6119
  • 1,4 GHz 2017 MacBook - 7567
  • 1,3 GHz 2017 MacBook - 6974
  • 1,2 GHz 2017 MacBook - 6654
  • 2,3 GHz 2018 MacBook Pro - 16464
  • 2,3 GHz 2017 MacBook Pro (without TB) - 9071

In these two tables we can see that even the MacBook Pro from 2017 without the Touch Bar are somewhat more powerful than these new MacBook Air in these tests and this is a significant data when buying the new MacBook Air 2018. These Pro could be a good candidate to buy considering the price of both computers, more in the market outside of Apple (third-party stores) that we can find with discounts and the like.

Here you can find all the data of this Geekbench test carried out on the new MacBook Air and realize that this is a current equipment, which serves as a purchase reference for the vast majority of users and that only a MacBook Pro can overshadow it. This leaves us with a bad taste in our mouths with respect to the 12-inch MacBook that is "eliminated" from any possible purchase (price-performance) like the old MacBook Air that continue to be sold or that you can find in the second-hand market, but it is what they have decided in Cupertino.
