Google Chrome's Picture in Picture feature is now available natively

Google Chrome has just been updated to version 70, a version whose main novelty is found in the Picture-in-Picture function, a function that allows us to place a floating window on the desktop of our computer of the video that we are viewing, a function that arrived a couple of years ago to Safari, limiting the use of this function to the Apple browser, within macOS.

For a couple of months, as my colleague Javier showed you, we could activate this function in version 69, process required us to go into Chrome settings and we carried out a series of steps that allowed us to activate this function. After upgrading to version 70, this feature is now available to all Chrome users.

Chrome has never been characterized by offering optimal performance, especially in MacBook, offering an exaggerated battery consumption, something that unfortunately we also find in other Google applications within the iOS ecosystem. Even so, Chrome is the most used browser in the world, with a market share that exceeds 60%, and many of them are Mac users.

Once we have passed the video that we are seeing a floating window, we can modify its size and the location to view it in the way that best suits both our monitor and our needs.

To activate this function translated as Image in image, we just have to place ourselves on top of the video, and press twice with the right mouse button. When clicking on Picture in Picture, the video will start to play in a floating window.

Once you are in the floating window, we can enlarge or reduce the size of the video by clicking on one of the corners of it. In addition, we can also move it around the screen to be able to place it anywhere on the screen.
