SharePlay feature will not be available with the release of macOS Monterey

shareplay

One of the novelties that Apple presented during the last WWDC 2021 in which it presented the new versions of macOS, iOS, iPadOS and watchOS was the SharePlay function, a function that It allows us to share the content of a streaming video platform through FaceTime.

HBO, Disney +, TikTok and Twitch are some of the platforms that will be compatible with this function. Netflix and YouTube, two of the most important, have for now decided to move from this function, a function that the Cupertino-based company has confirmed will not be available with the launch of the final version of macOS Monterey.

Apple disabled this feature in the latest macOS Monterey betas giving us a hint that this feature was likely not available in the final version. A few hours ago, Apple has confirmed that it will not be available through a statement in which we can read:

SharePlay has been disabled for use on iOS and iPadOS 15 in Developer Beta 6 and will be disabled for use on its initial release this fall. SharePlay will be re-enabled for use in future developer betas and will be released to the public in software updates later this fall. To continue your development, we have provided a SharePlay development profile that will allow you to successfully create and host GroupSessions through the Group Activities API.

As usual, Apple has not given any reason for the function delay. The issues could range from technical to legal when it comes to media sharing although presumably before announcing this feature the potential legal issues should have been fixed.
