The Tragedy of Macbeth will close the 65th BFI London Film Festival

The Tragedy of Macbeth

In may of this year, Apple TV + was confirmed to have secured the premiere of the upcoming drama The Drama of Macbeth by director and writer Joel Coen, based on the original play written by William Shakespeare. At the time, Apple confirmed that it was once again leveraging its partnership with the A24 production team to bring the film to not just the small screen via Apple TV +, but also to some movie screens.

Macbeth dramatizes the physical and psychological effects of political ambitions. It is likely that this work by William Shakespeare is the one that most clearly reflects the relationship of the playwright with his king. That is why it can be said that it is the most personal of the writer and that is why it is so shocking and acclaimed by the whole world. For this reason, it is also normal that this project with such a scale has an actor of the highest level: Denzel Washington. It also complies with the Apple TV + strategy of having the best.

We still do not have a release date in theaters or on Apple TV + for this drama from the acclaimed writer. However, if you are lucky enough to join those selected to attend this year's BFI Film Festival, you will be able to see a re-premiere. The drama  will make its European premiere at the gala LFF, the Royal Festival Hall at the Southbank Center. At official announcement Today's Film Festival, the event confirmed that the film's director and screenwriter, Coen himself, will also make an appearance at the premiere. Coen himself has stated:

Shakespeare belongs to the world, but he comes from Great Britain. Having borrowed its cultural heritage, and having been extremely fortunate to work with some of its brightest actors, I am honored to bring this film to the London Film Festival to its European premiere.
The 65th festival BFI  in collaboration with American Express is held on Wednesday October 6 to Sunday October 17, 2021. The launch of the program LFF will take place on Tuesday, September 7, 2021.
