This is how Steve Jobs buried Mac OS 9 at the WWDC in 2002

Shrine Of Apple: Mac OS X Jaguar 10.2

At WWDC 2002, Steve Jobs started the conference with the funeral of Mac OS 9 and not only did he bury an operating system that gave way to the X in his name, he buried a part of the Mac OS family that came to Mac in 1999. In this case, it is also a coincidence that this burial was carried out held in the city of San Jose, at the Convention Center, in California. On Monday, May 6, 2002 at 10:00 am local time, Apple CEO Steve Jobs appeared on stage to bury Mac OS 9 and gave way to Mac OS X with these words: «It's a great time to be a Mac developer. To get our developers even more excited today we preview our next Mac OS release, Mac OS X«.

Also we leave the video for those who want to see this moment in the keynote:

The new operating system was much more stable and offered users exciting new features that were great for the time. Jobs, showed a qualitative leap in terms of stability and new features and also carried out a deep face wash in his marketing strategy for the next generations of Mac OS X. Over time OS X has been the name of the following versions for Mac and the arrival of macOS Sierra last year sent many users back to the past. Now it is time for the present and in this WWDC of 2017 we do not expect big changes in what refers to the software and neither to the name of the same that will be macOS…. but it can be a keynote with many nods to that mythical keynote in which Jobs himself buried Mac OS 9.
