Tim Cook on Trump's anti-immigration order: 'not a policy we support'

During his first seven days in the White House, Donald Trump has not disappointed his supporters or constituents. Last Friday, the new president of the United States, Donald Trump, signed one of his most controversial promises (in addition to the wall with Mexico, the liquidation of Obamacare ...). It is an executive order of a marked anti - immigration nature according to which, and for at least three months,  Citizens from seven Muslim-majority countries are prohibited from entering the United States: Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen. Along with this, the refugee aid program has also been suspended. Donald Trump said the goal is to keep "radical Islamic terrorists" out of the United States.

Faced with this decision, Apple CEO Tim Cook sent a message to all company employees on Saturday stating that Apple does not support executive orders signed by President Donald Trump to limit immigration to the United States. In the note, obtained by The Verge, Tim Cook explains that the order "is not a policy we support".

Tim Cook and Apple, against Donald Trump's anti-immigration policy

Tim Cook has noted that there are already Apple employees who are being affected by the order and that they have been contacted by Apple's human resources, legal and security teams. Additionally, the company has reached out to the White House in an effort to explain the effect it is having on its employees and the company as a whole.

But Apple and Tim Cook are not the only ones taking a stand against these kinds of measures. Many organizations in defense of human rights speak directly of "religious persecution." At the same time, the CEO of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg He expressed concern by stating that "We need to keep this country safe, but we must do so by focusing on the people who really pose a threat."

It is painful to see the personal cost of this executive order on our colleagues.

This is the Cook's full message to Apple employees:

Team,

In my conversations with officials here in Washington this week, I have made it clear that Apple deeply believes in the importance of immigration, both to our company and to the future of our nation. Apple wouldn't exist without immigration, let alone thrive and innovate in the way we do.

I have heard from many of you who are deeply concerned about the executive order issued yesterday restricting immigration from seven Muslim-majority countries. I share your concerns. It is not a policy that we support.

There are employees at Apple who are directly affected by yesterday's immigration order. Our Human Resources, Legal and Security teams are in contact with them, and Apple will do everything possible to support them. We are providing resources on AppleWeb for anyone with questions or concerns about immigration policies. And we have come to the White House to explain the negative effect on our co-workers and our company.

As I have said many times, diversity makes our team stronger. And if there's one thing I know about the folks at Apple, it's the depth of our empathy and mutual support. It is as important now as it has been, and it will not weaken one bit. I know I can count on all of you to make sure everyone at Apple feels welcomed, respected, and valued.

Apple is open. Open to all, no matter where they come from, what language they speak, who they love or how they love. Our employees represent the best talent in the world, and our team comes from all corners of the world.

In the words of Dr. Martin Luther King, "We may have come in different boats, but now we are in the same boat."

Tim
