Time Machine on macOS, know this information before you start using it

If you follow the news that we offer you daily from the Apple ecosystem, you will know that the end of products such as the Time Capsule, AirPort Extreme or the Airport Express has been announced. These are products related to networks WiFi and Ethernet and with which we can make backup copies of our system, Apple's own.

With a Time Capsule and time Machine present in macOS, we can have an incremental backup that will allow us to recover any file we need and we have lost going back, as is, in time.

Well, a while ago I have been able to buy a 1TB Time Capsule second-hand with which I have prepared to make a Time Machine. When the macOS operating system detects a high-capacity storage or device for the first time gives you the option to start using it with Time Machine.

If you don't get the message to start the Time Machine, you can do it by going to Launchpad> Other Folder> Time Machine. When the application starts, the system asks you for certain settings and automatically and hidden from the user, a data dump process begins on the hard disk where you are using Time Machine (in my case the Time Capsule). The first thing I noticed when the process began is that the time it would take to complete the entire process was very high, so I began to search Apple's own help forums what he could do and why that happened.

I have not taken long to find the solution and it is that everything is focused on the macOS operating system, so that the user does not see his experience with the system affected while that first backup is made in which EVERYTHING is copied in the external disk, it gives a low priority of resource consumption by the system, so the process is slow.

A user shared with the community that if we want the system to allocate more resources to this action, we must execute the following command in the Terminal, which when we execute it ending in the number "0" makes the process go faster and when we run it again but finished in "1" it returns to its normal operating mode.

sudo sysctl debug.lowpri_throttle_enabled = 0

Keep in mind that when you make that first backup that includes all the content of the Mac, the successive ones are very fast and they are done as you create files.

It remains to be noted why the backup of time machine is damaged after a couple of months, having to do the whole process again

I have been using my CT for 3 years without having to play anything, it even saved me from a disc with sudden death and there was the backup. I use it both in the office and at home and have had no problems. Greetings

I have used this feature quite a few times and it has saved me several times.
