Antivirus applications for Mac are growing, but they are not necessary

Lately we are seeing a series of news related to adware, malware or even some viruses carried from Windows to the macOS operating system, therefore the newest applications that we find in the Mac App store are directly related to antivirus. The question here is clear: Is it necessary to install an antivirus application on the Mac?

Many of you present have been with Mac for many years and have never ever used an antivirus, many others at some time may need the use of an antimalware, but most Mac users do not usually have virus complaints although it is true that these proliferate more and more.

In principle, the main advice before installing an antivirus or not, on the Mac is not to install it. If the computer works normally, we do not have slowdown problems or we do not notice anything out of the ordinary, it is best to stay out of the antivirus. Prevention on Mac is not useful, so it is best to do without these applications.

As we always say in these cases, common sense both in macOS and in any other operating system is the basis for not getting infected with malware, adware or the like, so be careful with what we download from the network and especially where we download it from. Having more antivirus applications in the Mac app store every day and installing them does not mean that we will be more secure with our Mac, simply that developers know about the new malware that runs on the network and take advantage of this situation to launch their antivirus, but we really repeat that the best antivirus for your Mac is yourself.

Honestly, common sense tells me that the entry is not well founded. Among others, because I believe that common sense requires knowledge and it is very easy for someone with little knowledge related to computers or types / modes of infections to be infected, since little common sense can apply if you do not know when you have to be cautious or apply common sense.

You are right in what you say, but the "common sense" that I want to refer to in the article is that of buying the applications where it plays without going beyond computer skills. Obviously anyone can be affected by a virus on their computer and not be aware of it, but in most cases the access to our Mac of that virus is due to an unofficial download, believing that "they are going to give you Netflix »or similar news that we see every day. That is why I speak of common sense in the article.
