We compare the main specifications of the current Mac mini and the previous one

Comparing the previous Mac mini to those that were presented yesterday is what tells us that the new Mac mini mini have rather little. We are talking about Macs that have nothing to do with each other and that earlier versions of these Mac minis offered pretty old hardware due to Apple's update policies.

This is not to say that previous Mac mini did not perform its function correctly and that users who have it have to jump to the new model, far from it. What is true is that change is important when we look at the specs of each other face to face.

Yesterday the company sent its new Mac mini "from space", with which it hopes to regain the good feelings among the most demanding users in terms of power and obviously earning more money with somewhat higher prices starting from an intermediate model of 805 euros that the previous mini cost with "similar internal" specifications but always older in terms of processor age, less RAM, etc.

Previous Mac mini prices and specs

555,59 € for 5GHz dual-core Intel Core i1,4 (Turbo Boost up to 2,7GHz) PC with 3MB shared L3 cache built in.

805,59 € for Mac mini with 5GHz dual-core Intel Core i2,6 (Turbo Boost up to 3,1GHz) with 3MB shared L3 cache onboard Configuration option with 7 GHz dual-core Intel Core i3 (Turbo Boost up to 3,5 GHz) with 4 MB shared L3 cache.

1.105,59 € for Mac mini with processor 5GHz dual-core Intel i2,8 (Turbo Boost up to 3,3GHz) with 3MB shared onboard L3 cache. Configuration option with 7 GHz dual-core Intel Core i3 (Turbo Boost up to 3,5 GHz) with 4 MB shared L3 cache.

The new Mac mini add the following configurations and prices

  • The entry model starts at 899 euros and it carries a 4 GHz Intel Core i3 3,6-core processor, 6 MB shared level 3 cache.
  • The 1.249 version is the basic version for the 6-core processor model. In this case, mount an Intel Core i5 with six cores at 3 GHz, turbo Boost of up to 4,1 GHz and 9 MB of shared level 3 cache.

The configuration options for the 6-core model add the ability to mount a 7GHz six-core Intel Core i3,2 processor, Turbo Boost up to 4,6GHz, and 12MB shared L3 cache. Base memory for both 8GB 4MHz DDR2.666 SO-DIMM models, with the possibility of adding 16, 32 or 64 GB in both models. The SSD capacity for the base model is 128 GB PCIe SSD, with the buyer being able to add more space at the buyer's expense with a 256 GB, 512 GB, 1 TB or even 2 TB SSD.

For 256GB model and higher price (€ 1.249) the disk configuration options are also 512 GB, 1 TB or 2 TB. Both teams add Intel UHD Graphics 630 graphics and we do not see an option to change.

Supported video formats

Up to three monitors can be connected simultaneously. Two monitors with 4.096 by 2.304 resolution at 60 Hz via Thunderbolt 3 plus a monitor with 4.096 by 2.160 resolution at 60 Hz via HDMI 2.0 or up to two monitors being a monitor with 5.120 by 2.880 resolution at 60 Hz via Thunderbolt 3 plus a monitor with 4.096 by 2.160 resolution at 60 Hz via HDMI 2.0. Supported Thunderbolt 3 digital video outputs

  • Native DisplayPort output via USB-C
  • Thunderbolt 2, DVI, and VGA outputs via adapters (sold separately)

Connections and extensions

Four Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) ports supporting:

  • DisplayPort
  • Thunderbolt (up to 40 Gb / s)
  • USB 3.1 Gen 2 (up to 10 Gb / s
  • Thunderbolt 2, HDMI, DVI, and VGA (requires adapters, sold separately)
  • Two USB 3 ports (up to 5 Gb / s)
  • HDMI 2.0 port
  • Gigabit Ethernet port (configuration option with 10 Gb Ethernet)
  • 3,5mm headphone jack

Actually these teams are totally different and Apple wants to give a boost to the Mac mini by adding all the meat on the grill, with more powerful specifications and also with a price that has nothing to do with the Mac mini that we all know and whate had not received a new update for four years.
