We present a good alternative to the LG 5k monitor marketed by Liyama

Apple's commitment to powerful equipment such as the iMac Pro and the future Mac Pro, for professional work, has caused the proliferation of high-end peripherals and monitors, to support these high-end Macs.

One of these sectors is the 4k and 5k monitors. With the release of the MacBook Pro in late 2016, Apple released LG Ultrafine monitors. At first they brought some discomfort to users, but later they have proven to be robust and solvent machines. Other manufacturers such as Liyama are direct competitors of LG providing great advantages, such as their 5k monitors.

The model presented is known as Liyama ProLite XB2779QQS-S1. The first important advantage is its price. We can find it for € 831, price somewhat more affordable than the € 1.399 of the LG model and marketed by Apple.

Share with the LG model the size of 27 inches. Its definition reaches 5.120 x 2.880 pixels. Instead, does not have the Thunderbold 3 connection with 5k quality of video through the two DisplayPort 1.4 inputs. This is a handicap that you have to consider when deciding between this monitor and the LG. However, has three HDMI 2.0 inputs, but limited to 3.840 x 2.160, or what is the same, quality around 4k.

This monitor has IPS panel allowing maximum brightness of 440 cd / m2, 178º viewing angles and ultra-fast 4 ms response times. It has 16,7 million colors. The connections are complemented by a headphone output and two microphones. As for the ergonometry of the monitor, it is adjustable in height and inclination. So if you need a fully Mac compatible, 5k quality monitor, you may need the LG model. On the other hand, if you want a good performance monitor and with the possibility of emitting 5k, the Iiyama model may be the right one for you.

LG does not want to be left behind, and plans to release a new 5k monitor this year, whose main novelty is to show an ultra-wide screen.
