Western Digital presents its first external My Passport SSDs up to 1TB with USB-C

If you are the owner of a 12-inch MacBook or one of the new MacBook Pro with or without Touch Bar, we announce that the leading company in hard drives, Western Digital has announced that it is going to put on sale a new model of small external disk SSD with capacities ranging from 256 GB, 512 GB to 1 TB.

It is not the first type of external disk of this type that we see and it is that Samsung already has its T3 with similar characteristics in the market although in that case they reach a capacity in the model greater than 2 TB.

The My Passport range of drives is renewed to accommodate a new SSD model with a direct connection via USB-C port. When we talk about what has a USB-C connection is that it is possible to use the computer cable supplied with the adapter to connect this new disk to a 12-inch MacBook or a new 2016 Macbook Pro.

As we have already told you, the starting point is 256GB for $ 100, moving up to $ 200 for the 512GB and $ 400 for the 1TB model.. Keep in mind that the prices of external SSDs have fallen considerably in recent months, but the prices of these SSD eggs from Western Digital are on par in terms of the price that Samsung's T3 range currently has. Notably, the T3, however, offers a storage tier over 2TB for $ 790.

Regarding the maximum speed of this new Western Digital unit, we can point out that it is very similar to that of the T3, which is 515MB / s. They are also protected against both physical and digital variables, even having a 256-bit AES hardware encryption.

Availability has yet to be announced, but is likely to be out soon. You can register in the Western Digital website so that they inform you of its sale.
