Will my Mac be compatible with macOS Sierra 10.12?

imac

We are hours away from the official launch of the new Mac operating system and at this time is when all the doubts assail us about whether our Mac will be able to resist the update, if the Mac will work better, if we are going to lose everything that we have in it or if it will be compatible ...

The truth is that whenever there is an update of the operating system, whatever it is, doubts assail us and this is something that should not happen to us at this point but it happens to us. So today we are going to see again which are the Mac compatible with macOS Sierra 10.12 that will be launched tomorrow around this same time.

The first thing is to clarify that all users who can update or want to do so would be interesting to update from scratch. To update from scratch it is necessary to follow some steps that tomorrow we will share with all of you, but that we are already moving forward, they will surely be similar to those of previous years. The best thing about big OS hops is clean the Mac first and then perform an installation without recovering backup copies, only recovering important files or data from Time Machine, but let's save that for tomorrow and focus on The Macs that can install the operating system as soon as it is released by Apple.

The Macs will be:

  • iMac (finales de 2009 y posteriores)
  • MacBook Air (2010 y posteriores)
  • MacBook (finales de 2009 y posteriores)
  • Mac mini (2010 and later)
  • MacBook Pro (2010 and later)
  • Mac Pro (2010 and later)

These are if or if the Macs that Apple includes in the list of computers compatible with the macOS Sierra 10.12 operating system to be released tomorrow, so despite everything the list is by no means small and most of us will have the opportunity to update our Macs.

I have an IMAC from the beginning of 2009, I wonder if I can install MacOs Sierra without installing all its updates, in some MACOS updates what was done was that it was installed but capped in some of its characteristics. Is it possible that the same thing happens with the Sierra? Thank you

      Good morning Guillermo,

It is possible that it installs fewer features if you can install it on your Mac, but the ones that will limit you will only see it when you install it.

      regards

No, you will not be able to install it, your equipment is not on the list.
