WWDC 2022: iOS 16 with many new features

Apple has shown iOS 16, with a new lock screen, news in messages, in Wallet and map updates and much, much more. iOS16, will arrive in the fall to match the new iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro. The new operating system brings with it the usual range of performance improvements, breaking changes, and new features. Let's see what's new:

Lock screen

The lock screen has received A makeover, to make it a more useful element of iOS. Widgets are introduced, bringing more data to the lock screen. The intention is that there is more data for the user to see, without the need to fully unlock the iPhone to see it.

The lock screen can be customized, including the ability to add photos and filters in Portrait mode. The clock can have different fonts and colors, while the new wallpaper gallery can suggest photos for you to use. Multiple lock screens can be made, with a lock screen editor capable of making screens just like you would set up Apple Watch ones.

Lock screen notifications

Notifications have been updated to display new items at the bottom of the screen. The new live activities and API can show visible notifications, and for music live activities, they can also show album art.

El concentration mode also goes to the lock screen, so it can show a specific lock screen depending on which mode is active.

iOS 16

shareplay

shareplay is enhanced with a dedicated button on FaceTime. It's also coming to iMessages, so multiple conversation participants can watch a synced video and chat via text.

imessages

The ability to edit messages after they have been sent. You can also permanently delete messages from a conversation and mark a thread as unread.

Se dramatically improves the dictation function which is also complemented by the function of being able to touch to edit with the voice.

There are some functions of iOS 16 that will not arrive in Spain, at least for now:

Apple News

It has been updated with a section "my sports", that allows users to follow their favorite teams. This includes highlights, scores, and rankings for teams. There's also integration with Apple News+, allowing paid publications to use the same My Sports feature.

Maps

Maps in iOS 16

Apple's redesigned Maps experience will be available in six more cities, allowing views of those locations with 3D objects. The new screen is also rolling out in 11 more countries.

Now users will be able to plan up to 15 stops on a route in advance. You can also plan on a Mac and send the route to iPhone.

In the fall we will have iOS 16 for all users. At the moment, the developers will be the ones who will be able to use all these novelties through the Betas. Surely we will continue to tell about the news of iOS 16 recently presented.
