Do you have 2 monitors for the Mac? Open the applications on the monitor that you previously assigned

And it is usually unusual to have two monitors at home to work with the Mac, but it is true that more and more users have more screens at home, not to mention workplaces where have 2 or more monitors connected to the Mac it is common.

In this sense, what we are going to see today is the option to add a screen assignment for a certain application to our Mac. To give a simple and quick example, we can say that monitor 2 always open the Pages app on this screen and so with all the applications we want and alternating between the apps we want.

It is possible to add an additional screen to the Mac and this can be done in several ways. You can connect a display other than the built-in display, or add a display to your already connected display (if your Mac doesn't have a built-in display). You can also use AirPlay and Apple TV to mirror or extend your Mac desktop to an HD TV. Once the screen is connected, this of opening the applications on a monitor or another that may seem very complicated to configure or manage, is simpler than we think and we can make this configuration directly by pressing the right button on each of the applications that we have in our Dock.

Let's see how simple it is with the options offered by the application itself when right-click on them in the Dock. We have several options when pressing but we are only interested in the Desktop on the screen in this case:

  • Desktop on screen 1: if we activate this option we will see the app on a desktop but only on screen 1
  • Desktop on screen 2: in this case what we have when activating this option in the app is that the app will be seen on screen 2

And ready. Now when we use this application, it will open directly to the assigned screen.

That part of assigning to, it doesn't appear to me, I have macOS High Sierra. Do I have to activate something in the terminal before?

    Good Pablo,

When you right-click the app> Options, it doesn't appear or is it light gray?

In principle it should appear without problem obviously if you do not have two monitors you can not click on it.

    a greeting and tell us

You talk about having "two or more" monitors, and also that one option is to connect by Airplay.
Can it be connected by Airplay to two or more monitors? Or just one?
