YouTube TV cancels subscriptions made through the Apple App Store

Youtube

There is news that does not make much sense. You read them and you create your own opinion, many times without knowing what real reasons there may be behind them. Today's is one of those news. YouTube has grown tired of being in the Apple App Store, and leaves it.

A priori I think he wants to keep the 15 percent (30 the first year) that Apple takes from each subscription that is made through the App Store. Then I reason that all subscribers that YouTube has through Apple, will have to register again directly on YouTube to continue subscribing. Many will be lost along the way. I don't know if this will make up for the internet video mogul.

YouTube today sent an email to customers who are subscribed to its YouTube TV service through the App Store Apple informing them that these subscriptions end in March.

The message says verbatim:

You are currently subscribed to YouTube TV through Apple in-app purchases, so we are writing to inform you that, As of March 13, 2020, YouTube TV will no longer accept payments through Apple's in-app purchases.

YouTube TV members will still be able to view YouTube TV content on Apple devices.

You will be billed for the last month of service and then your in-app purchase subscription will be automatically canceled on your billing date after March 13, 2020.

YouTube has not commented on this, so it is not known exactly what were the reasons that led to this decision. When it comes to app subscriptions made through the App Store, Apple charges 30 percent of the subscription fee the first year, and 15 percent the following.

The YouTube TV application should remove all references to subscribing and registering for that application when in-app purchases disappearas Apple does not allow applications to be linked to third-party subscription purchase options.

YouTube TV users will be able to continue using the application on Apple platforms, but they will need to register for a subscription on the YouTube website. The app is available on iOS, iPadOS, and tvOS.
