If you own a MacBook Pro from mid-2012 or early 2013, Apple may have delayed changing the battery for these Macs. The reason has been a stock break of the batteries of these models. Specifically, it was not a problem of the lack of batteries itself. The part that was not in stock was the assembly on the top, where the Mac batteries were attached, on the 15-inch models, with a retina display.
This piece is made of aluminum and at the same time, it houses the keyboard, the trackpad and it has the slits to locate the computer's speakers.
The battery of these equipments is fixed to the upper part of the casing. Once we separated the battery from the case, we had to replace the charged battery pack in one change. Given the shortage of this case, Apple offered in compensation, a free repair. Since the stock has been replenished, now it does not allow this gratuity since last Tuesday.
In case you are interested in replacing the battery, Apple charges $ 199 in the United States. This figure is usually similar in other countries and therefore, its price will be around 200 euros in Europe.
The first cases of delay in the change of the battery of these Macs, date from March 2017, when they stopped offering battery replacement. The initial forecast to have supplies was September 2017, moving to November. To date we had no new news, with some interested parties opting for other solutions in the face of Apple's passivity.
However, Apple offered solutions to interested consumers. First, Apple offered repair the battery free of charge, as soon as I had stock. But if the customer did not want or could not wait, the other solution was to choose an equivalent model. Some customers benefited by swapping out their 2012-2013 MacBook Pro for a 2016 MacBook Pro with Touch Bar for the price of $ 199.
But this shortage of stocks did not occur in all parts of the world. In Spain we have the testimony of some reader of Soy de Mac who claimed to have done the test and, either they had a replacement, or they understood that the battery was not highly deteriorated, the only requirement for changing it.
