MacBooks from 2018 could feature Amber Lake processors

MacBook Models

With the new 2018 MacBook Pros fresh out of the oven, today we know details of the new Intel Amber Lake processors, suitable for the next MacBook that Apple plans to release in the coming months.

And is that these 8th generation processors produced in 14nm ++ will be on the market, predictably in the last quarter of the year. The information has reached various forums around the world, such as the Dell page in Chile, the Romanian website NextLab501 and a MacRumors reader. Everything seems to indicate that they will improve in performance, but also in consumption.

Among the chips in the range, the 12-inch MacBook is expected to include the following:

  • Core m3-8100Y: It will have 2-core processors, with speeds of 1.1 Ghz., and can reach 3.4 Ghz in turbo.
  • Core i5-8200Y: 2-core processor, with speeds between 1.3 Ghz, up to 3,9 Ghz. in turbo.
  • Core1 i7-8500Y: again 2 cores in the processor, and speeds between 1.5 Ghz up to 4.2 Ghz. in turbo.

These speeds are significantly higher than the Kaby Lake processors, which we have today. The differences are around 0,1 Ghz on average. These chips will feature the Intel integrated graphics, UHD 620. Technology 14nm ++ enables low-power performance, which translates into longer battery life.

Instead, we have no official statement from Intel about it, not even an approximate date of release. Intel has repeatedly delayed the presentation of its processors, which is why it may not confirm the release of these processors.

The company has had a difficult time with the Specter and Meltdown vulnerability and surely they want to be sure of the reliability of their products before going to market.  We also do not know Apple's forecast regarding the possible presentation of the 2018 MacBook, nor other features that the brand's ultra-thin Macs can bring. Speculation speaks of a presentation in September, along with iPhones.

Finally, although with minor problems, MacBooks have a butterfly keyboard. Some media indicated that Apple rushed to introduce the MacBook Pros to release the third generation of butterfly keyboards. This can also influence the exit the market for the new MacBook, with new butterfly keyboards. We will see how the Mac world evolves in this regard.

I think that before updating the MacBooks should update the iMac and put processors of the eighth generation.

And wouldn't they need ventilation? I have the macbook 12 ′ from 2015 in its highest processor configuration, the m3 of 1,3 and 512 ssd and 8 gb of rpm and well, people see who has criticized its lack of power and ports, but I am delighted with it for its portability to use it on a bird, plane, car, travel, street, etc ...
It is true that if you give it a lot of cane it shows that it lacks power but it is not my case except for 2-3% of those occasions that I retouch a photo in photoshop, the rest is pdf, excel, word and little else. I bought a port adapter for the usb-c but I hardly use it, I handle almost everything in the iCloud cloud or a 3 tb nas that I have.

Good afternoon, Manuel. I think Apple is working well on heat dissipation. In any case, if the chips consume less, they will also generate, in theory, less heat.

      Thanks for comment.
