Adobe video applications will take advantage of connected eGPUs to increase performance

If we are talking about professional video editing In macOS we have to talk about two major blocks: Final Cut Pro X, along with Compressor and Motion on the side of Apple and Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects and Adobe Media Encoder if we talk about Adobe applications.

Today we have known the performance enhancement that will take advantage of Adobe software in the next updates, by leveraging the benefits of external eGPUs connected to Thunderbolt 3 through the USB-C ports of our Mac. The eGPU brand Sonnet works with Adobe in the development of the software.

It is planned to see performance demonstrations in the most relevant video-focused event, the 2019 NAB. In the words of Richard Callery, Senior Developer Relations Manager, AMD:

The unique combination of technologies from Sonnet, Adobe and AMD enables content creators to effectively cut their export time from ProRes 422 to 4K in H.264 by more than half.

Today this is the most frequent export when you want to upload your videos to social networks such as YouTube or Vimeo. The tests you carry out allow to obtain the following figures:

This is incredibly important for creators who love to export their videos to YouTube. With a traditional setup, a 15-second clip can take around 70 seconds to export. But when publishers use the Sonnet system powered by AMD Radeon Pro WX 9100, the normal export time of ProRes 422 to 4K, H.264 is reduced to about 29 seconds

As we have read in Callery's words, the tests have been carried out with the box Sonnet eGPU with a WX 9100 GPU. This set has an approximate cost of € 1500. Developers have to assess whether this outlay is compensated for them. On the other hand, Greg LaPorte, Sonnet's vice president of sales, told the US media that there are significant improvements with the eGFX Breakaway Puck with AMD RX570 chipset, commented on Soy de Mac a few hours ago. This announcement joins new video package updates Adobe Creative Cloud, which Adobe updated with news last week. This is good news for the video world that will drive its development.
