Apple's involvement in renewable energy reaches Japan

Apple's involvement in renewable energy has been recognized around the world. In fact, it has been awarded many times for its support of the environment. The first step was carried out in its own production processes. But Starting in 2015, it established clean energy plans with its suppliers. In its 2016 report on supplier liability, the company stated that its Energy efficiency had reduced carbon emissions by more than 13.800 metric tons.

We have known a few hours ago that, Apple has reached an agreement with its main supplier in Japan, the component supplier ibiden. The company is committed to Apple to replace the traditional power supply in all production processes with renewable energy.

The energy that will be used from now on is solar energy. This creates more than one inconvenience, since the supplier company had the challenge ahead: find enough space for large solar installations in a country as densely populated as Japan. But Ibiden has found an innovative Apple-style solution.

To fulfill its commitment, Ibiden will invest in more than 20 new renewable energy facilities, including one of the largest floating solar photovoltaic systems in the country. The flotation system is built in a lumber warehouse, to maximize the use of the area in Japan.

Lisa Jackson, Apple's vice president for the Environment, Policy and Social Initiatives, commented that clean energy was good for business as well as the environment.

As we continue our push to fuel our global strategies with 100% renewable energy, it is more important now than ever that we can help our manufacturing partners to make the same transition to cleaner sources, and set an example for other companies.

We can say To this day, that any Apple product is built on 93 by renewable energy. This figure is much higher than other manufacturers in the sector. In 23 countries, Apple or its suppliers manufacture 100% of their products with renewable energy. The combined figure, at the end of the year, would reach more than 2,5 billion kilowatt hours per year of clean energy for the manufacture of products. If you are not knowledgeable in the matter, equates to removing 400.000 cars from the road.
