The problems of the North American company in the old continent are not limited to Ireland and its databases. These days, a representative part of the parties that are part of the Congress in Spain, has requested the claim to the Cupertino-based company, of the taxes avoided in the country since 2003.

According to a post by Yahoo Finance, la Finance and Public Function Commission discussed this option, among the members of the Mixed Group, PSOE and Citizens, being approved with 21 votes in favor, 14 against and 1 abstention.

The commission thus created a subcommittee so that in the next 6 months it evaluates the internal measures to take applying the current legislation. It is a priority, says Ignasi Candela, a Compromis deputy, to fight with tax evasion due to large companies and multinationals:

“It would not be understood that the government asks thousands of citizens for a fiscal effort and do not do the same with companies that can do tax engineering to avoid paying taxes. "

The measure that Spain wants to implement it goes a bit beyond mere economic adjustment with large companies that have evaded taxes. According to Yahoo Finance, The recent initiative also defends establishing important sanctions against those company directors or executives implicated in said tax evasion. The possibility of revoking work permits for those who have planned said evasion system is also raised.

This is not the first time that this issue has been attempted to be addressed in Congress. In September of last year, the PSOE asked the public administrations to calculate the money that the Californian company it had stopped paying taxes for its activity carried out in Spain since 2003. This entailed starting to carry out the procedures to recover said unpaid taxes.

The initiative in Spain is preceded by the fine imposed of some € 13.000 million by the European Commission for the agreement with Ireland, where the taxes paid did not reach 1%.
