Following the news last week that Apple acquired the virtual voice assistant company in the UK VocalIQ, Bloomberg reports that the company has recently also purchased Perceptio. An Apple spokesperson has confirmed the purchase with the usual statement that they always make "Apple buys smaller tech companies from time to time, and it usually doesn't talk about our future purpose or plans."

Perceptio is a startup that has been developing a technology to allow companies to execute advanced artificial intelligence systems across smartphones without the need to share user data. It is not difficult to imagine what Apple wants to do with this type of technology, given its interest in AI and its high stance on privacy, and ongoing efforts to protect user data.

As reported by Bloomberg:

Perceptio's goals were to develop techniques to run AI on images on smartphones, without having to pull them from large external data repositories. That fits the strategy of trying to minimize its use of customer data and do as much processing as possible on the Apple device.

Apple made the same comment about this acquisition that he has previously made on similar occasions.

Apple buys smaller tech companies from time to time, and it usually doesn't talk about our future purpose or plans.

Although Apple apparently set the tone for digital assistants with Siri in 2011, since then has been exceeded in functionalities in rival products of Google y Microsoft. Perceptio is the second Siri-related acquisition we've heard of in the last week alone.
