Do you miss a MagSafe on a Mac with USB-C? ThunderMag is a solution

ThunderMag as an alternative to old MagSafe

The charger MagSafe It was one of Apple's great innovations in charging laptops. It allows to have a Mac connected to the current and it disconnects automatically when we pull the current cable. In this innovative way, we prevent our equipment from flying off, avoiding painful damage.

With the arrival of USB-C Macs and ultra-thin computers like the MacBook and the latest MacBook Pro or MacBook Air, Apple has had to dispense with elements. One of them is to use only the USB-C port both for connection of a peripheral and for charging.

This measure has made us lose the possibility of having our load connected to our Mac in a magnetic way, because as you well know in USB-C connections the connection is traditional, inserting part of the plug into the Mac. But now we know the thundermag, which is a dock for the USB-C sockets of our Mac that connects magnetically. In this way we have again all the features of our MagSafe, but also the speed of connecting a ThunderBold 3.

Speed achieved with ThunderMag

The design of this ThunderMag corresponds to the accessory manufacturer innerexile. Features full ThunderBold 3 specifications including transferring 40Gbps data, 100W load and video up to 5K. At the moment we know it through Kickstarter, which collects funds for serial product development. Logically, those who donate amounts to the project will be able to purchase the product first.

The guys Engadget have used the trial version for months, and their opinion is as follows:

Fortunately, I have been able to closely follow the progress of the ThunderMag, especially when I received the first prototype in June of last year. The near-final product I have now is thankfully much more polished, with just the right magnetic force to ensure that the adapter breaks when the cable is pulled.

If you are interested, you must make a contribution to the project of at least U.S. dollar 39 and its manufacturers claim to have a vFinal version in April.
