Maquero dictionary: the acronym «UB»

If you are a switcher or not, you usually pay close attention to the acronyms that accompany the programs you may not have noticed these acronyms, but I am sure that more than one has seen them on many occasions and does not know what they mean.

That is why we are here, to resolve doubts. "UB" stands for "Universal Binary", which in Spanish means universal binary. But what is the translation that we can all easily understand? Is this (in bold the really important thing):

A universal binary is, in the words of Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC),, an executable file that can be run natively on both architectures PowerPC as in x86. It is an implementation of the "fat binary" concept. The universal binary format was introduced by Apple in 2005 as an easy way to port existing PowerPC applications to newer Intel processor-based systems.

Universal binaries typically include both the PowerPC and x86 versions of the compiled application. The operating system detects a universal binary by its header, and executes the appropriate section for its architecture. This allows applications to run natively on any supported architecture, without a negative performance impact (but increasing the size of the binary file).
