They manage to Jailbreak the original HomePod thanks to Checkra1n

Apple launches the HomePod

Does anyone remember the jailbreak? Although it may not seem like it, there are many people interested in being able to have certain unofficial functions. The risks can be somewhat high, compared to the benefits, but without a doubt they have to be worth it, because if not, nobody would keep trying to make new versions. So much worth it that they have managed to do jailbreak the original HomePod through checkr1n.

Once we have overcome the prejudices that jailbreak only makes sense on the iPhone or Apple TV, we know that it works for other devices. Even the original HomePod has been hacked thanks to the checkm8 bootrom exploit that fuels this jailbreak. In particular, it is proving to be most profitable since even Apple's T2 chip has been hacked, which resides for example in a few Mac models.

Twitter user @ _L1ngL1ng_, has shared the news that the HomePod has been jailbroken. Thanks to the user also from Twitter @ DanyL931 who announces himself as one of the members of the checkr1n team, who have been in charge of carrying out such a maneuver.

In the posted tweet, you can clearly see a screenshot of the macOS terminal in which you can see a series of command lines that suggest that the HomePod has been accessed as administrator through a secure shell connection (SSH).

We don't know very well what are the possibilities that open to this new finding. Some think that the HomePod can be used as a Bluetooth speaker without having to use AirPlay. Others aim to be able to change the colors and customize it to the user's liking and even to be able to use Google's assistant and not Siri.

We will see what they are doing the members of the checkr1n team and the news that this jailbreak presents to the HomePod.
