This will be the next external monitor from Apple

Display

Early next year, Apple plans to release a new monitor for Macs. It will be an intermediate between the current studio display and ProDisplay XDR. So we will have a total of three Apple monitors to choose from.

The exterior design is still a mystery, but it won't be much different from the two current monitors. But we do know already Some features main features of this new screen. Let's see what has been leaked today about this new release from Apple.

It seems that Apple plans to launch in a few weeks a new monitor, to expand the "short" range of external monitors that it offers us today. And I say "short" because the offer today of Apple monitors is reduced to two: The Studio Display for 1.779 Euros and the Pro Display XDR for 5.499 Euros.

The new monitor will sit somewhere between the Studio Display and the very expensive Pro Display XDR. So in a few months we will already have three Apple monitors on the market. There are not many, really. And even more so if we take into account that Apple sells three computers without a screen, such as the Mac mini, MacStudio and Mac Pro. Let's see what is known today about this new monitor.

27 screen inches

According to the latest leaks, the new monitor will have a size of 27 inches. It would therefore be the same size as the Studio Display and five inches smaller than the Pro Display XDR.

Although this size is not the most suitable for some creative professionals who require a larger screen such as the ProDisplay XDR27 inches is likely to be more than enough for most users.

Mini-LED panel

Apple's next monitor will be the first to feature a panel Mini LED, according to the latest rumors. Mini-LED technology will offer substantially higher contrast and deeper blacks than the current Studio Display.

Promotion system

It is also speculated that the new Mini-LED panel of this monitor is compatible with Apple's ProMotion technology, that is, it will have a variable refresh rate of up to 120 Hz. A very important feature for video editing, or next generation games.

Thunderbolt ports

Taking into account that the Studio Display, also 27 inches, has a single port Thunderbolt, it is very likely that the new monitor has more than one port of these characteristics, to be able to connect several devices that require a connection with a high bandwidth.

ARM processor

A13

The A13 Bionic is the processor of the current Studio Display.

The Studio Display was the first Apple monitor to feature a built-in processor, the A13 Bionic, the same one that mounts the iPhone 11 and the current ninth-generation iPad. This allows the monitor to run a special version of iOS, receive software updates, and offer special features like Center Framing that is processed by the monitor itself.

It has not been revealed what processor model the new monitor will mount, but at least it will be an A13 Bionic. And it may already be a A14 Bionic. We will see.

planned release

Apple planned to launch it for last June, at WWDC. But due to component supply problems, it was first postponed to October, and now to early 2023. We will see, then, if it is not delayed any longer and goes on the market in the spring.
