Apple has us accustomed to semi-hidden functions that allow us to work faster. Both the different versions of macOS and the system applications have options that we do not know about, but they are there to make our work easier and faster. This is the case of the two functions that we will see below from the Safari browser on our Mac. We are talking about the function "Paste and go" y "Paste and search" which we will have access to from the Safari address bar. But this function is hidden unless we have information on the clipboard. From there the magic begins.
What Safari facilitates us is to skip a step, instead of copying, pasting and then pressing enter, it will be enough to perform the first two functions. This feature is only available in the latest versions of the browser, so if it doesn't work for you, update if you can.
The function is carried out in this way:
If you want to access a URL that you have in a document (and of course it does not have a link) you must perform the following steps:
- Copy the address to the clipboard. That is, mark the address and copy with: edit - copy or the shortcut Command + C.
- Now go to Safari. In the address bar you have to click on the right button or the gesture that we have assigned on our trackpad.
- We look for the option "Paste and go" and we press it.
Right now, Safari will paste the address and access it immediately. That easy. You can take the test right now, with the address: www.soydemac.com
But you can also find information for a word or message quickly in Safari. Remember that the browser links to the search engine you have assigned when you enter something other than http: //
To do this, repeat steps 1 and 2. In the third point, look for the message "Paste and search". You will directly access your search engine with the results of the word you just added.
This option has started to appear on the iPhone since the last update, very easy to access.
