Actress America Ferrera has joined the cast of the Apple TV + limited series We Crashed, which is based on the podcast of the same name documenting the rise and fall of WeWork. Ferrera, Emmy winner for the series Ugly Betty, will be part of the cast of this 8-episode miniseries with Jared Leto and Anne Hathaway. The podcast on which this series is based is available on the Wondery podcast network, a platform that Apple tried to buy but ultimately ended up in the hands of Amazon.
Ferrera will play Elishia Kennedy, described as a "brilliant young businesswoman who is seduced into joining WeWork and whose life is turned upside down as a result," according to The Hollywood Reporter. WeCrashed was created by Lee Eisenberg, co-creator of Little America. Eisenberg will also serve as showrunner, while John Requa and Glenn Ficarra to direct the series.
The WeWork series isn't the only Wondery podcast being adapted for Apple TV +. Apple also won the rights to the eight-episode comedy series. The Shrink Next Door.
WeWork was born in 2010 as a lifelong real estate agency but was sold as if it were a technology startup (so it was financed by venture capital companies). This company is dedicated to renting large office spaces that later rented to people and thus offer a coworking system.
WeWork's downfall began when it was preparing to go public. The Wall Street Journal found that WeWork actually was a scheme that turned offices into a ponzi pyramid. In reality, he was not renting the large office spaces to sublet to freelancers, he was buying them. Where did he get the money from? From the CEO, Adam Neuman, who was lending his own company.
