In early March, Apple sent home to practically all Apple Park employees to continue working from home, a measure that several employees have said that they are not doing well because they cannot combine childcare with work.
According to CNET, who has had the opportunity to chat with some of these employees, they affirm that do not have enough time to care for their childrenespecially with those who are not old enough to study remotely. It should be remembered that in the United States, as in many other countries, schools and educational centers are closed.
Apparently Apple is aware of this problemas evidenced by the memo that Deirdre O'brian sent to employees earlier this month, stating that the company was developing flexible work options that ensure that parents "have the support and flexibility to adjust their schedules as needed ”as well as encouraging them to report any conflicts they face with the company to try to find a workable solution for both parties.
Apple has increased communication between managers and employees since the outbreak began. Any employee can request special treatment to adapt their working hours to the family environment, while managers have to help employees with more difficulties as much as possible, offering the option of reducing their workload so that they can take care of their family members.
Apple is working on find a solution to this problem, since the measures that have been taken so far, have not quite adapted to the different needs of the employees. As Kristin Huguet, an Apple spokesperson, told CNET:
No deadline is too important, and no priority is more urgent, than caring for our loved ones. Our goal is to be flexible, collaborative, and accommodating to every parent and caregiver on our teams. This is a difficult time for everyone, especially parents, and we want to do everything we can to support each member of our Apple family.
Working from home while caring for young children, it can become an ordeal depending on how active the child may be. Many will think that the simplest solution is to put Netflix or Disney + on a loop so that they are quiet and without moving, but morally parents do not want that for our children.
