Apple fills Apple Park windows with stickers to avoid more accidents

Shortly before the end of last year, Albert Salvador, the person in charge of giving the go-ahead to Apple so that the company could open its doors to employees, took a tour of the works and expressed concern that the employees could collide with the glass walls they were in the cafeteria.

The cafeteria area shows us glass walls that are indistinguishable from the doors as we reported a few weeks ago. Shortly after, one of the construction contractors directly hit one of these glass walls as reported by the San Francisco Cronicle newspaper.

Since to date there have been a large number of employees who have needed medical attention after hitting these walls, so the problem was not only in the cafeteria, but we can find it throughout the construction. Apple has spent more than 5.000 million in the construction of its new central facilities and for this, it has used a large amount of glass, not only indoors but also to cover all sales with a curved space glass.

The office of Apple Park architect, Normal Foster, placed  black rectangle stickers with rounded corners in the crystals to facilitate their visibility and not break the aesthetics. These stickers were placed on December 30, before the employees began to make the move. It is unclear if these are the same stickers that were removed from previous reports that "recommended" their installation or are new mandatory stickers.

According to Salvador, “In my mind the building is safe according to the codes that I impose”, but he affirms that "We don't look at the glass when we inspect the buildings". Employees began moving into Apple Park on January 2, just as incidents of head injuries suffered by some employees when colliding with the glass began to become public.

Shortly after these incidents, the architecture firm of Norman Foster and Apple began attach more stickers to improve visibility of the glass panels. At the moment it seems that these new stickers have been more effective, since accidents with employees have completely disappeared.
