Apple Introduces MobileMe Internet Service

Email, Contacts and Calendars in "Push" mode for iPhone, iPod touch, Macs and PCs.

SAN FRANCISCO — June 9, 2008 — Apple® today announced MobileMe ™, a new Internet service that delivers email, contacts, and calendars in push mode from MobileMe to native applications on iPhone ™, iPod® touch, Macs, and PCs. MobileMe also provides a set of elegant and ad-free web applications that offer an experience similar to that which the user would have when working with resident applications on the computer itself, through any modern Internet browser. MobileMe (www.me.com) applications include Mail, Contacts, and Calendar, as well as Gallery for viewing and sharing photos, and iDisk for storing and sharing online documents.

"Think of MobileMe as the 'Exchange for the rest of us,'" says Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO. "Now, users who are not part of a company using Exchange can enjoy the same push email, push calendars and push contacts that large companies have."

In a MobileMe eMail account, all folders, messages, and status indicators appear identically whether you are checking email on an iPhone, iPod touch, Mac®, or PC. New email messages are instantly "pushed" by push technology to the iPhone over the mobile phone network or Wi-Fi network, thus eliminating the need to manually check email and wait for it to be delivered. download. Push technology also keeps contacts and calendars permanently updated, so that changes made on one device are automatically sent to the MobileMe service and immediately transferred to other devices. The push capability works with native iPhone and iPod touch applications, with Microsoft Outlook on the PC, and with Mac OS® X Mail, Address Book and iCal applications, as well as with the MobileMe suite of web applications.

MobileMe web applications are totally ad-free and offer an incredible user experience, similar to the one they have when working with resident applications on their own computer; to the point that they allow the user to drag and drop, click and drag, and even use keyboard shortcuts. MobileMe allows access to email, contacts and calendar from anywhere, through a unified user interface that allows users to jump from one application to another with a simple click; and Gallery makes it extremely easy to share photos on the web in amazing quality. Gallery users can upload, reorder, rotate and caption photos from any web browser; upload photos directly from an iPhone; allow visitors to download high-quality images for printing and even contribute by contributing photos to an album. The MobileMe iDisk allows users to store and manage their files online with drag and drop convenience; and it makes it very easy to share documents that are too bulky to include in an email, automatically sending an email with the link to download the file in question. MobileMe includes 20GB of online storage that can be used for email, contacts, calendar, photos, movies, and documents.
