The consultancy IDC today presented its approximate sales forecasts for the different brands, alluding to global sales regarding the PC market during the last quarter of 2014. In the data presented we can see how Apple would continue to climb positions with respect to the other manufacturers selling a higher number of Macs than in the same quarter last year. This consultancy initially forecast that PC unit sales would drop 4,8% annually, yet the market only actually did so 2,4%. Although the drop has not really been as marked as had been said, it is no less true that the market shows signs of fatigue in a spiral of deceleration in sales, this being the third year of fall in total sales in favor of the new smartphones or tablets with bigger screens and increasing possibilities.
According to the data shown, the total number of PCs sold during this quarter amounted to just over 80 million units, which is only a small part of the 308 million units sold during 2014. The positions would be given with Lenovo in the first place followed by HP, Dell, Make and Apple in fifth position respectivelyIf we look at global sales, if we look only at sales within the US, Apple would climb to third place.
It is curious to see how Apple would have sold 5,75 million Macs worldwide, which would mean a growth of 18,9% compared to the previous year but of which almost 2.24 million of these machines were sold only in the United States, something that shows that the American market continues to be its main focus. Recall that Apple already reached an all-time high in Mac sales in the previous quarter with 5,52 million Macs sold.
On January 27, Apple will officially publish its financial results where we will see if it really changes made with the iMac Retina and updates to its Mac line keep the company on the right track.
