Apple joins an open letter to Donald Trump: "We are a nation strengthened by immigrants"

Tim Cook on Trump's anti-immigration order: 'not a policy we support'

Different companies in the technology industry, including Google, Facebook and, of course, Apple, are preparing an open letter to the President of the United States, Donald Trump, as way to express, once again, your firm opposition to the anti-immigration executive order that, since last Friday, has prevented citizens from seven countries from entering the country where the majority religion is Muslim.

The draft of this open letter has already reached the media and it details the importance that immigrants have had in the history of the United States, mentioning the concern about the way in which the order will affect the employees of these and other companies that have visas, and explains that companies are willing to lend a hand to help the Trump administration to make logical and necessary changes if it is ready to accept aid.

A necessary letter that shouldn't exist

As we said, this letter will be signed by different technology companies, including: Apple, Facebook, Google, Uber, Microsoft, Stripe and others. But apparently, this letter is not limited to companies in the technology sector or, at least, those what was stated since Recode, medium that had access to the draft thereof; These companies are already working to include other companies from other sectors of the economy.

This is the full draft of the letter:

Dear President Trump,

Since the country's inception, America has been the land of opportunity, welcoming newcomers and giving them the opportunity to build families, careers, and businesses in the United States. We are a nation strengthened by immigrants. As entrepreneurs and business leaders, our ability to grow our businesses and create jobs depends on the contributions of immigrants of all backgrounds.

We share your goal of ensuring that our immigration system meets today's security needs and keeps our country safe. However, we are concerned that your recent executive order affects many hardworking visa holders here in the United States and contributing to the success of our country.

In a global economy, it is critical that we continue to attract the best and brightest from around the world. We welcome the changes your administration has made in recent days to how the Department of Homeland Security will implement the executive order and we stand ready to help your administration identify other opportunities to ensure our employees are able to travel predictably and without delay. improper.

Our nation's compassion is a part of what makes it exceptional, and we are committed to helping your administration identify approaches for a thorough review without a blanket suspension of admissions under the United States Refugee Admission program. While security and verification procedures can and should always be subject to continual evaluation and improvement, a blanket suspension is not the correct approach.

Likewise, we are willing to identify ways to help achieve your stated goal of bringing clarity to the future of the 750,000 Dreamers in this country under the protections of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

Removing these protections by prohibiting renewals would effectively end the program and remove the ability for these Dreamers to work and live without fear of deportation.

The business community shares your commitment to growing the American economy and expanding job creation across the country. We hire thousands of Americans and some of the most talented people from abroad, who work together to help our companies succeed and expand our employment overall. As you contemplate changes in the nation's complex and interconnected immigration policies, whether they are business or employment visas, refugees, or DACA, we hope you will use us as a resource to help achieve immigration policies that support the work of businesses and reflect American values.
