Apple publishes Safari 7.1 and 6.2 beta respectively to developers and users of the beta program

Safari-7.1-seed1-developer-1

Apple just launched a new version of your Safari browser addressed to users enrolled in the beta program and of course to Mac developers. The new version of OS X Mavericks is about 7.1 while Mountain Lion users will see how the update to version 6.2 appears. This new beta includes several improvements to the WebKit engine that makes the browser work.

According to the release notes, the changes include support for settings in WebGL, IndexedDB, and JavaScript plus other features. Apparently there is also a change in the way the application handles extensions, so much so that in these beta versions all the add-ons installed by default are disabled and in the aforementioned notes, developers are asked to check if there are any compatibility problems as you install and test them.

Surely this version 7.1 is probably the last big update Safari for Mavericks prior to the OS X release of Yosemite. Remember that OS X 1o.10 (Yosemite) will include the new Safari 8 among others. Without further ado I leave you with the notes of these beta versions:
Focus areas:

  • Check general web compatibility.
  • Sub-pixel rendering is now on by default for all web content.
  • Web sites or in-app web views with very strict design restrictions may react differently.
  • Check extension support for CSS objects
  • New features of WebKit
  • WebGL. Support for Safari in WebGL that allows developers to create 3D experiences that work natively without plug-ins.
  • IndexedDB. The API enables web developers for IndexedDB to store structured data from web applications that run online or require large amounts of data to cache on the user side.
  • JavaScript. Safari allows JavaScript authors to work more naturally with asynchronous programming patterns.
  • Forms and composition CSS. With the use of CSS, websites can now easily add the text around images and geometry to perform image composition operations on DOM elements.
