Apple Maps vehicles, present in more than 10 countries

Apple Maps vehicles have collected data in more than 10 countries and 40 states. The first time we saw Apple Maps vehicles was in New York in 2015. The sensation was such that there was speculation about whether it would be Apple's first autonomous vehicle or on the contrary, it was some kind of data collection from Apple, to compete with Google Maps.

Today, it seems that the second option is gaining strength, although knowing the company, it is possible that it has some secret kept and use this information to put it into practice.

In areas like the United States, the most recent scans have been carried out in Maine and Iowa. To these areas are added locations as disparate as Croatia, France, Ireland, Italy, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden or the United Kingdom. If you are interested in tracking the actions of Apple vans, you can consult the page Apple.

Today there is an important debate regarding privacy, we can say that Apple:

Will erase faces and plates in collected images prior to publishing

With that, we are not sure about the options we will see in Apple Maps, in the next version of macOS, but the intention to erase faces implies that we will see a version of Google Street View or similar. As early as 2015, Mark Gurman announced that Apple would launch a 3D vision of the streets, in the style of Flyover. For Gurman, Apple's Street View option is different from Google's version.

Perhaps the information collected by Apple will help a future Apple vehicle to drive more precisely on the streets, by having more information about the environment. There is little left to see the results that Apple has prepared for us. At the moment we can see the interior of at least 10 airports from all over the world, so that the trips to make a link or find the car rental house, is easier.
