According to a new report issued last week, the research firm verto stated that Apple Music ranks first in monthly unique users in the United States, with 40.7 million. Well above the 36.2 million users of Pandora or the 30.4 million Sportify.
The fourth and fifth place would go to iHeartRadio y SoundCloud, with 28.5 million and 25.7 million unique listeners respectively.
The data suggest that the smartphone is by far the preferred method of streaming music consumption. Statistics place the use of phones and tablets for listening to digital content between 46 and 78%.
Connie Hwong, Director of Content Marketing at verto, Said that the success of Apple Music is undoubtedly due to the 3-month free trial promotion offered by Apple. Easy access to the platform, Hwong says, coupled with the number of Apple devices on the market, makes a perfect match for the proliferation of Apple Music's success.
While Apple Music leads the number of users statistic, Spotify the one with the longest average listening times dominates. The Cupertino-based company is placed third in this ranking, also behind the platform Pandora.
One really relevant thing about all this is that if the data provided by Verto is real, Apple Music has notably increased the list of users registered for its services. It should be remembered that Apple closed 2016 with some 20 million active users, a figure that, according to the market research firm, would have doubled in just 3 months.
Taking into account the normal rate of growth, and knowing that in April of last year, the service had 13 million users growing to 17 million in September, 23 million active users could be estimated in this month of March. We eagerly await official figures from the Californian company.
