Apple repeats for the eleventh consecutive year at the top of the Fortune magazine ranking

As many of you know, Fortune magazine makes an annual list of the most representative companies worldwide. Last year, Apple celebrated ten consecutive years at the top of the list. This year he repeats in the ranking made by the magazine American in the first position.

It is not easy to appear on the list and even less to perpetuate over time. As an example, we have Apple's most direct rival, Samsung. Last year, due to the incident with the batteries exploding, the Korean firm left the Fortune list and this year it has not appeared again.

Google's parent Alphabet ranks second. The globalization of your browser is a fundamental piece to occupy the first place. The second place is occupied by Amazon, Well, its online store is one of the most valued in any country. Other companies appear in the Top 10, such as: Berkshire Hathaway, Starbucks, Walt Disney, Microsoft, Southwest Airlines, Fedex and JPMorgan Chase. Other companies like Netflix, Facebook, Salesforce, IBM, Accenture, Intel and AT&T. occupy the top 50 positions.

In this type of list it is interesting to know the reasons that create it:

We started with a universe of approximately 1.500 candidates - the 1.000 largest US companies ranked by revenue, along with non-US companies sourced from the database Fortune's Global 500 who have income of 10.000 billion or more. We then apply the filter to the highest-earning companies in each industry, a total of 680 in 29 countries. The top-rated companies were chosen from that group of 680. The executives who voted then chose by vote.

To determine the top-rated companies in 52 industries, Korn Ferry asked executives, directors, and analysts to rate companies in their own industry on nine criteria, from investment value and quality of management and products to social responsibility and the ability to attract talent. A company's score must be in the top half of the industry questionnaire to be listed.

To select our 50 All-Stars, Korn Ferry asked 3.900 executives, directors and securities analysts who responded to industry surveys to select the 10 companies they most admire. They picked from a list made up of companies that ranked in the top 25% in last year's surveys, plus those that finished in the top 20% of their industry. Anyone can vote for any company in any industry.

Apple excelled in these nine attributes:

  • Innovation
  • People Management
  • Use of corporate assets
  • Social responsibility
  • Management quality
  • Financial strength
  • Long-term investment value
  • Quality of Products / Services
  • Global competitiveness.
