Apple fixes "stage light" problems quietly

MacBook Pro and stage light problem

Weeks ago the forums began to comment on problems on the screen of the new MacBook Pro 2018. The problem in question was quickly named as "Stage light". Users detected inconsistency in the light that appears at the bottom of the screen. It was easy to see with the screen almost blank, where shadows were detected and not a totally consistent screen.

After verifying the problem by companies like iFixit that are used to disassembling Mac to know its interior construction, they detected that a cable was too thin and short. The movement of opening and closing the screen caused the advanced wear of said cable.

Not only the 2018 model was affected. The problem is in the design of the MacBook Pros from 2016 to 2018. The cable connects the motherboard and screen of our Mac. A fatigue of said cable due to its weakness, causes this problem. According to iFixit, Apple has fixed the problem on 2018 computers by lengthening the cable, therefore, not offering so much tension the same. What cannot be verified is the result of this modification. In the words of Taylor Dixon, iFixit teardown engineer:

This is important because it gives the backlight cable more room to wrap around the board and not come into contact with the board, as the Mac notebook opens more than 90 degrees.

The problem arises with the friction of the cable, which weakens it and prevents proper operation due to wear. The iFixit engineer warns that a similar problem may have the 2018 MacBook Air, but to date they have no record of failures in this regard. A hopeful data in relation to the MacBook Pros from 2016 onwards is the number of failures that the authorized Apple centers, as well as the Genius Bars, indicate a number of similar failures on models after and before 2016. If we concentrate this analysis on the first year, the computers after 2016 are ahead compared to the MacBook Pros from 2012 to 2015.
