Apple to merge iCloud Documents and Data service with iCloud Drive in May 2022

iCloud 12 is withdrawn by Apple for having errors

The newspaper specialized in Apple and technology, MacGeneration, has published that according to new information they have, Apple intends to merge the iCloud document and data services with iCloud Drive service. This merger is intended to be carried out in May next year. In 2022, thus giving users time for change.

The first thing we must do is clarify a couple of concepts. You may already know it, but it never hurts to be able to define well what we are talking about. Thus, we know that iCloud is a cloud storage service that is used for various services that Apple offers. While iCloud Drive works like OneDrive, for example, a service that goes into iCloud.

They share the critical ability to back up application data. However, ‌iCloud‌ documents and data were often a complicated and confusing experience. ConverselyiCloud Drive‌ is more unified, and users can access their files and content through the Files app on all their devices.

Starting in May next year, users using ‌iCloud‌ documents and data will have their accounts automatically migrated to ‌iCloud Drive‌. However, users should manually enable ‌iCloud Drive‌ to view your files once fusion occurs. On Macs, we will have to go to System Preferences -> ‌iCloud‌, and select ‌iCloud Drive‌ on macOS. In May 2022, the ‌iCloud‌ document and data service will be discontinued and completely replaced by ‌iCloud Drive‌.

A logical process taking into account that the Files App wants to be from where we can access all the data that we have on any of the Apple devices. iCloud Drive becomes the only meeting point.
