Apple updates the list of obsolete and vintage Macs

Apple regularly updates Mac models that can be repaired directly in Apple Stores physical, forcing the user to go to unofficial technical services or make a living in other services. Apple classifies these devices into two categories: vintage, when 5 years have passed since they stopped selling and obsolete, when the time elapsed since they stopped selling exceeds 7 years. These categories apply worldwide, except Turkey and California, due to local regulations. Apple just updated this list by adding three new Mac models to the vintage and obsolete category.

The model that has become part of the vintage category is the Mac Mini that hit the market in mid-2011 and that stopped selling at the end of 2012, when Apple released new models. The 21,5-inch and 27-inch iMac that were launched in 2009 and that they were renewed at the end of 2010, have become part of the list of obsolete devices by Apple.

In the same announcement, Apple has taken the opportunity to announce that the extended warranty offered to MacBook Pros with retina displays it's no longer available. It should be remembered that Apple offered an extension of the warranty due to the problems that a large number of models suffered during four years, a problem that was baptized as Staingate.

That our devices have become part of the vintage or obsolote models, does not mean that Apple will stop providing us with operating system updates. Many are the Mac models that are part of this category that continue to enjoy the latest version of macOS High Sierra today, although in order to do so in conditions, it is always advisable not only to expand the RAM but also to change the hard drive mechanical for a solid one.
